Luna 4 Lumos

I was on Tumblr earlier, and saw something called Luna 4 Lumos mentioned. 

Knowing Lumos - as well as being a spell from the Harry Potter Series - is J.K. Rowling's charity for underprivileged children, I Googled what Luna 4 Lumos was.

Turns out, some Youtubers, lead by Tessa Netting and Dayeanne Hutton, have decided to do a fundraising drive for Lumos, in Luna Lovegood's name. 

Why? 

Because Lumos is a great cause, and because Luna Lovegood (from the Harry Potter Series) is an icon for the voiceless. 

She's different and unique, and not afraid to be true to herself, and it's often people like that, people who don't fit into the mainstream, that need our help. 

Many Youtubers have recorded videos for the Luna 4 Lumos tag, including Tessa Netting and Brizzy Voices, to promote the fundraiser. 

And there's fun things to unlock, like Harry Potter Movie Marathons with the Youtubers, each time an amount goal is reached!

I was very tempted to make my own video for the Luna 4 Lumos tag, but I am terrible in front of the camera, so instead I thought I'd post a blog version of the questions. Please feel free to play along!

- If you could pick one of Luna's qualities/personality traits that you don't already have, what would it be?

Her awesome ability to not give a damn what others think about her. I try to be like that, but it doesn't always work out. But Luna went out in front of the whole school, wearing a roaring lion hat to support the Gryffindor Quidditch team. She often wears odd fashions, or talks about animals no one else believes in, and just does not give a damn if people think she's 'loony.' She is who she is, and isn't ashamed of that.

- If you had magic, what one muggle struggle would you use it to help?

If I had magic, I'd love to be a bird Animagi, so I could just transform and fly off whenever I needed time and space to de-stress and clear my head.

- make up your own creature like the Blibbering Humdinger or Crumple-Horned Snorkack!

My animal is called Doge! It looks like a regular dog, but it can sign Christmas songs! ;)

- If you could change Luna's patronus, what would you change it to and why?

I'd change it to a Blibbering Humdinger or Crumple-Horned Snorkack to really show Luna's uniqueness, and her ability to believe in things others might write off as nonsense.

- Luna has a unique sense of style! She loves her dirigible plum earrings and cork necklace. What's one piece of clothing or item of jewellery that means something to you, and why?

I actually don't wear that much jewellery on a regular basis, as I have sensitiveness, so wearing anything for too long becomes itchy and irritating. I don't even have a wedding ring, as my original one irritated my finger too much.

The one constant I do have is my lip ring. I guess because it's surgical steel I hardly notice it.

Hum ... now I'm wondering if they make surgical steel wedding rings?

They do, so I bought one! ^_^

- Luna loves pudding! What's one Hogwarts food you wish you could try?

Lots of the Hogwarts food, especially what's served during the feasts etc., is actually pretty similar to standard UK food, so it's all stuff I have quite frequently. In the UK, pudding is our name for desert, not actual pudding.

I'm on a low carb, low sugar diet now, so the mention of pudding had me drooling. I wonder, could Honeydukes invent a low carb, low sugar chocolate bar? If so, I'd like a million!! ^_^

- If you could cross Luna over into any other fandom/universe, which would it be and why?

In Tessa Netting's video, she said she'd love to see Luna become a companion for the Doctor. I think this is an amazing idea. Luna would be a brilliant companion!

But I don't want to copy someone else's answer so ... let's see.

The X-Men universe would be cool. I could imagine Luna (who's magical powers would be caused by her X-Gene) flying off to America to attend Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.

- If Luna started a cause, like Hermione's S.P.E.W., what do you think it would be for?

I think she'd start something off for the conservation of endangered magical creatures, especially the less popular ones.

If unicorns were endangered, everyone would donate to the cause because they're so beautiful and majestic.

But what if fire crabs or flobberworms or something like that were endangered? No one would care, because they're not beautiful enough.

But Luna would appreciate the creature, not for it's looks, but because all living things have value.

- If Luna were a muggle, what profession do you think she'd be in?

She'd be a conservationist/ zoologist for sure! She'd be out there, discovering new species of animals, but also making sure endangered species were campaigned for.

I can also see her working as an activist, and campaigning on behalf of the oppressed and marginalised.

- What does Luna Lovegood mean to you?

To me, she's a symbol for the eccentric, the uncommon, the "abnormal."

She's a symbol to all the freaks and weirdos out there, who don't fit into the mainstream (for whatever reason; race, sexuality, gender identity, religion, ability, mental health. Hell, even fashion and music subcultures, like Goths, who're seen as freaks.)

She proves you don't have to be 'normal' to be yourself, and to be awesome, brave, kind and compassionate.
